ABSTRACT
Various causes lead to chronic infection in the palatine tonsils. The development of more than 100 types of diseases is associated with the pathology of the tonsils. A chronic process can affect organs and systems in various ways – that is, conditions for the development of comorbid conditions appear. Comorbidity is the presence of two and/or more diseases in a patient, etiopathogenetically interconnected. As systemic manifestations in chronic tonsillitis, there can be diseases from the cardiovascular system, kidneys, musculoskeletal system, skin, central nervous system, oculomotor apparatus, liver, endocrine and reproductive systems. Patients with chronic tonsillitis often have pathology of the nasal cavity and paranasal sinuses. Due to the fact that chronic rhinitis contributes to a decrease in the functional activity of the palatine tonsils, the body’s immunity is significantly weakened. Often, pathogenetic treatment of chronic rhinitis contributes to a stable restoration of cellular and humoral immunity in patients with chronic tonsillitis. This further leads to the absence and decrease in the frequency of relapses and, thereby, to a decrease in the progression of a chronic disease with damage to internal organs and body systems. Timely involvement of an otorhinolaryngologist in the treatment of patients with chronic tonsillitis with comorbid diseases has a positive effect and makes it possible to achieve a transition to a stable remission or a decrease in the frequency of relapses, which undoubtedly plays a role in improving the quality of life.
