ABSTRACT
The research presents the results of the use of local hyperthermia for the purpose of hemostasis in tonsillectomy. Among 110 patients, after removal of the palatine tonsils and coagulation of relatively large vessels (if any), gauze balls moistened with a saline solution with a temperature of 55 °C were injected three times into one of the tonsillar niches for 1–2 minutes. The second tonsillar niche served as a control. The severity of the pain syndrome, the pharyngoscopic image in the early postoperative period as well as the need for additional vascular electrocoagulation during surgery were compared. It was found that hemostasis performed by the method of local hyperthermia reduces the need for tissue coagulation, reduces pain in the pharynx after surgery, and also promotes earlier release of the wound surface from fibrinous plaque and its epithelization.
