ABSTRACT
Abstract. The review covers issues of embryonic formation, anatomical and physiological features of the olfactory analyzer, modern studies of the peripheral part of the olfactory nerve (1st pair of cranial nerves) at the cellular level. The problem of diagnosing and treating olfactory disorders is due to the multifunctionality of the olfactory analyzer. Data are presented on the participation in the olfactory function of the V, IX, X pairs of the cranial nerve as well as the vomeronasal organ. In connection with the growth of olfactory pathology, the need for a modern review of the literature will help researchers and clinicians in choosing a method of diagnosis and treatment.
