ABSTRACT
Abstract. Objective. To study the effect of disease duration on speech intelligibility in the long-term postoperative period in patients with atticoantral chronic suppurative otitis media. Materials and methods. The study includes the results of surgical treatment of 187 patients. Surgical techniques: closed-type sanitization surgery (canal wall-up mastoidectomy). Functional features: results of hardware speech audiometry (speech detection threshold level, SDT; optimal speech level, OSL). Duration of the disease (time intervals in years): from zero to two years; from three to five years; from five to ten years; more than ten years. Conclusion. The duration of the disease worsens the speech intelligibility in the long-term postoperative period in patients with atticoantral chronic purulent otitis media (p < 0.05). The functional results of surgical treatment of patients with conductive hearing loss in atticoantral chronic purulent otitis media with a disease duration of up to 24 months are better than in patients with a disease duration of more than 24 months (p < 0.05). To prevent a decrease in speech intelligibility in patients with conductive hearing loss and chronic suppurative otitis media, surgical intervention should be performed between 0 and 24 months after the onset of the disease.
