ABSTRACT
Abstract. The article discusses key aspects related to the features of diagnostics and treatment of cholesteatoma of a rare localization — in the external auditory canal. This type of cholesteatoma is much less common compared to more typical localizations and often causes difficulties in diagnostics due to the asymptomatic or mild course. The article contains data on the incidence, classification of cholesteatoma of the external auditory canal by causes of occurrence and by the degree of invasion of the pathological process, characteristic symptoms, and preferred diagnostic methods. A clinical observation of a patient with cholesteatoma of the external auditory canal is separately provided. The clinical case focuses on the asymptomatic development and course of cholesteatoma of the external auditory canal. The positive outcome for the patient, as a result, demonstrates the importance of timely diagnosis and surgical treatment of this disease as well as differential diagnosis with other diseases occurring with similar symptoms. A special feature of this observation is that the long-term undiagnosed cholesteatoma of the external auditory canal was accompanied by a defect in the posterosuperior wall of the external auditory canal without involvement of the middle ear structures.
