ABSTRACT
One of the most frequent pathologies of the middle ear is the exudative otitis media (EOM), characterized by the accumulation of exudate in the middle ear cavities resulting in conductive or mixed hearing loss. Oligosymptomatic progress of the disease, especially in children, affects the development of speech of children, worsens the ability to learn, indirectly affects the intellectual development and social adaptation, and, ultimately, the life quality of a person of any age. The article covers three theories of EOM generation and EOM classification frequently used in Russia. The authors have considered the conservative treatment methods and the application of simultaneous operations to eliminate the causes of exudation in the middle ear, as well as their consequences.
