Sinus surgery in planning of guided osseointegration, maxillary sinus augmentation, and dental implant procedure

ABSTRACT
Abstract. This study involved 364 patients with bone deficiency of the alveolar process of the upper jaw in the lateral sections accompanied by partial or complete adentia. Before surgery, patients underwent an endoscopic examination of the nasal cavity, its anatomical structures were evaluated—the nasal septum, nasal valve, osteomeatal complex. The condition of the maxillary sinuses was studied, aimed at detecting pathology. When pathology was detected, endoscopic functional surgical intervention was performed on the structures of the nasal cavity and maxillary sinuses before the operation of dental implantation, maxillary sinus augmentation, and guided osseointegration in the lateral sections of the upper jaw. In case of inflammatory phenomena in the paranasal sinuses, local criteria for the activity of the process were identified, affecting the outcome of subsequent dental intervention. The tactics of surgical intervention using endoscopic sinus surgery allows for low-traumatic interventions on the paranasal sinuses, significantly reducing the rehabilitation time of patients. During the endoscopic examination of the maxillary sinus lumen with preliminary preparation — infundibulotomy, the following clinical situations were recorded in the postoperative period, namely hematomas and scarring of the mucous membrane of the Schneiderian membrane in the projection of dental implants, extensive scars in the projection of the lower wall of the maxillary sinus after the introduction of massive augmentate.
