ABSTRACT
Cartilaginous tumors of the larynx present less than 1% of laryngeal tumors; the most common are chondroma and chondrosarcoma. 70–75% of these tumors occur on the endolaryngeal surface of the posterior lamina of the cricoid cartilage. The clinical presentation varies, it is directly dependent on the size and location of the tumor: stridor, hoarseness, dyspnea, or space-occupying mass are the most common clinical manifestations. It is not always possible to obtain an adequate biopsy sample from cartilaginous tumors because of their submucosal location. X-ray examination is the major and the most informative method for larynx chondroma. CT scanning in the axial plane is the mainstay of radiographic imaging of chondroma due to its ability to show size, extent of the tumor, and invasion into surrounding structures. Surgical intervention is the standard therapy while radiation or chemical therapies are ineffective. The authors present the case study of laryngeal chondroma. It was localized on the cricoid cartilage. The patient was treated surgically.
