ABSTRACT
Up to now no analysis of survival of patients with tongue malignant tumors at population level was performed in Russia. It became possible only after foundation of the first Russia’s PopulationBased Cancer Registry (PCR) in St. Petersburg; the Registry operates according to international standards. It is important to note that unlike many other tumor sites, the 5year observed and relative survival rates of the patients with tongue neoplasms treated in St. Petersburg, are substantially lower than the European average. The objective of the study. To estimate the rates of observed and relative survival rates of patients with tongue cancer (С01, 02), to compare the obtained data with the European average (according to the Eurocare Program), to evaluate the survival of this group of patients by sex, age, stage of disease and histological type of tumor. Materials and methods. To conduct this study, 1001 cases of patients with malignant tumors (PCR DB) were selected. The period of materials accumulation is from 1994 through 2011. Data comparison on the territorial level should be performed only on the basis of relative survival rates estimations. Analysis of the obtained data. The main criterion for evaluation of the efficiency of cancer control for all malignant tumors is a relative survival rate, evaluated according to international standards. We analyzed the data of 5year observed and relative survival of patients from 1994 through 2011.
