ABSTRACT
The article presents the data of the author’s study of prevalence and quantitative identification of herpesviruses, in particular, of Epstein–Barr virus (EBV), cytomegalovirus (CMV) and human herpes virus 6 (HHV-6) by means of real-time polymerase chain reaction (Real-time PCR) in chronic pharyngotongsillitis. The paper provides information about population of microbiota of the pharyngeal mucosa, its quantitative and type-specific assessment and the interrelation between contamination and local viral load of persistent herpesviruses. The author assessed the efficacy of antiviral therapy in chronic pharyngotongsillitis associated with herpes infection in a six months period using control quantitative identification of virus particles by means of real-time PCR, the repeated examination of microbiota of the pharyngeal mucosa, and the control of remission or relapse.
