ABSTRACT
Abstract. Studying the prevalence of allergic rhinitis (AR) among children and adolescents is necessary to develop a strategy for preventing the disease. Objective. To assess the dynamics and comparative analysis of the prevalence of AR among the child population of ecological zones of Dagestan to identify problem areas and cities. Material and methods. Epidemiological indicators of the prevalence of AR were studied according to the data on appeal for 2019–2023 in the Republic of Dagestan. Results. Analysis of the prevalence of AR among children under 18 years of age in the Republic of Dagestan in 2019–2023 showed that the rate varied from 387.3 to 594.5 cases per 100,000 child population. In rural areas, there was a high prevalence of AR among children (668.8±98.5 cases per 100,000 children), and in cities it was significantly lower (322.3±81.2; р = 0.032). The highest prevalence of allergic rhinitis was observed in the foothill zone of Dagestan (Me 1,258.1; P25–P75 959.9–1,270.5 cases per 100,000 children) and in the highlands (Me 684.9; 651.2–698.8; р = 0.075). The maximum prevalence rates of allergic rhinitis were noted in Suleiman-Stalsky (5.5%), Akhtynsky (2.9%), and Kumtorkala (1.9%) districts of the republic. In the time series of the prevalence of allergic rhinitis among children in the foothill zone, there was a tendency for the indicator to increase, while in other ecological zones of Dagestan there was a decrease in values. A 2.5-fold excess of the median prevalence of allergic rhinitis among the child population of noncoastal cities was revealed compared to coastal cities (р = 0.57). Conclusions. RD is characterized by a low prevalence of AR among children (0.4–0.6%) compared to the Russian average (0.6–0.9%). There is a significant difference in the IPR of AR among the child population of various municipalities; therefore, it is necessary to further improve regional programs for the diagnosis, therapy, and prevention of this disease.
