Role of nursing staff in organizing adult hearing care using example of Saint Petersburg City Audiological Center

ABSTRACT
Abstract. The nursing staff of the City Audiology Center, as in any medical institution, performs the functions of a doctor’s assistant and also carries out independent nursing manipulations. Objective. To study the demographic profile, the range of professional competencies and assess the quality of professional and labor activity of the nursing staff of the Saint Petersburg City Audiology Center for Adults by surveying various categories of specialists of the institution and patients. The survey involved 11 nurses, 19 doctors and special educators, and 20 patients of the audiology center. All employees from among the nursing staff of the City Audiology Center hold the positions of office nurses, but they are charged with performing audiometric examinations. Results. The study confirmed that the introduction of additional positions for audiometry nurses in the staffing schedule of the regional audiology center will allow the employees from among the nursing medical staff to work less intensely, which will contribute to improving the quality of work. It was also found that conducting periodic surveys of staff and patients to assess various aspects of nursing activities helps identify problems that need to be addressed first when planning training and advanced training.
