ABSTRACT
Abstract. Objective. To analyze current literature data published between 2000 and 2024 on the characteristics of multilayer films for the oropharynx and nasopharynx; to identify the most significant aspects and promising areas for the development of multilayer films, in particular those related to the composition of active and auxiliary substances; to conduct a comparative analysis of their characteristics. Multilayer films may represent a promising option for individual controlled delivery of drugs to or through certain mucous membranes. Chitosan, alginate, polyvinylpyrrolidone, polydimethylsiloxane as well as nanofibers made of polyvinyl alcohol and chitosan, which are integrated with mangiferin, have demonstrated great effectiveness in the composition of films in the creation of biomaterials. The use of mucosal films with various combinations of active substances is possible for infections of the ENT organs, treatment of periodontal and oral mucosa diseases, and peri-implantitis. As a result of the analysis of studies on the development of multilayer films, it was found that such a dosage form is in demand for the prevention and treatment of various diseases of the mucous membranes of ENT organs and oral cavity and can serve as a promising development in the topical delivery of active substances.
