ABSTRACT
Abstract. Mine blast injuries (MBIs) represent a significant medical challenge in the context of modern military conflicts and terrorist attacks. One of the most frequent and severe complications of MBIs is hearing loss, which substantially impacts the quality of life of affected individuals. It limits communication abilities, contributes to social isolation, and leads to the deterioration of cognitive functions and psychological well-being. Hearing loss associated with MBIs results from the effects of shock and sound waves on the auditory system, causing damage to the structures of the middle and inner ear, as well as the auditory nerve. This condition manifests in conductive, sensorineural, and mixed forms of hearing loss, each characterized by distinct pathogenic mechanisms that require tailored diagnostic and therapeutic approaches. Clinical presentations range from acute to chronic forms and are associated with varying degrees of auditory impairment. Hearing loss because of MBIs arises from complex mechanical and pathophysiological processes triggered by shock waves. These waves interact with organs and tissues, causing mechanical damage that primarily affects the inner ear and auditory nerve. Understanding the pathogenesis and clinical manifestations of hearing loss allows us to develop effective methods of prevention, diagnosis, and treatment, improving the quality of medical care.?
