ABSTRACT
Abstract. Introduction. Viral infections are increasingly recognized as significant etiological factors for sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL). Study Objective. In light of the above, the present study aims to evaluate the impact of hearing aids versus cochlear implants on speech perception outcomes in adults with post-viral SNHL. Patients and Methods. Sixty adult participants (ages 18–55 years; 33 females, 27 males) with confirmed post-viral sensorineural hearing loss were recruited for this prospective study. Results. Before the intervention, both groups had significantly lower speech recognition scores, which confirmed the viral damage to their hearing. In the Hearing Aid group, the average unaided CNC word recognition score was around 40% (±15% SD), meaning these patients could understand less than half of single-syllable words in a quiet setting without amplification.
