ABSTRACT
The authors compared the techniques of canaloplasty and otoendoscopy in the cases of insufficient visibil¬ity of the front meatotympanal angle in 92 operations on the middle ear. The patients of the 1st group (n = 45) have undergone the canaloplasty of the external acoustic meatus under the surgical microscope with the fol¬lowing tympanoplasty, the 2nd group (n = 47) included the patients exposed to the manipulation in the area of poor visibility by means of endoscope with the diameter of 2.7 mm and the viewing angle of 0° and 30°. The endoscopic approach makes it possible to avoid the additional injury of skin and bone tissue of the external acoustic meatus providing more favorable course of regenerative processes in the postoperative period and decreasing the duration of surgical intervention. The use of the endoscopic technique after a certain period of adaptation for the surgeon may become an alternative for canaloplasty in most cases of poor visibility of the front meatotympanal angle in the operations on the middle ear.
