ABSTRACT
The electrically evoked compound action potential (eCAP) of the auditory nerve is the synchronous response of a population of the auditory nerve fibers to electrical stimulation. It can be recorded directly from the surgically exposed nerve trunk in animals or from an intra-cochlear electrode of a cochlear implant. Over the recent two decades, eCAP has been widely recorded both in animals and in the patients with the cochlear implantation systems using various testing algorithms. This paper provides a review of recording methods and response characteristics of eCAP, as well as its potential applications in research and clinical practice.
