ABSTRACT
Abstract. Postlingual chronic sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL) is characterized by decreased hearing at the fundamental voice frequencies as well as, in case of insufficient auditory control, deterioration of auditory-verbal feedback and changes in speech characteristics. Hearing aid (HA) is a frequently used method of rehabilitation for different degrees of hearing loss. Objective. By improving hearing, hearing aids (HA) affect auditory-speech interaction. The aim of the work was to evaluate the phonation and articulation indices in patients with moderate and severe SNHL using HA. Speech recordings were made in young and middle-aged women: 10 female speakers with moderate SNHL and 10 female speakers with severe SNHL. Voice parameters were evaluated with and without HA. The fundamental frequency of the voice (F0) responsible for phonation, formants F1, F2 of vowel sounds [a], [i], [u] responsible for articulation in different stress positions were estimated, and the vowel centralization index—the area of formant triangles—was calculated. A reliable decrease in F0 for all vowels, F1 [a] and [i] in patients with HA was revealed. The obtained result allows us to state that the insufficiency of auditory feedback caused by hearing loss can be compensated by HA. Changes in the spectral indices of the voice can be considered as individual criteria for the effectiveness of HA
