Auditory dysfunction associated with mine-explosive injuries and its acoustic correction

ABSTRACT
Abstract. Introduction. Mine blast injuries often result in a variety of severe post-traumatic changes in many organs and systems, including hearing damage. Hearing impairment due to mine blast injuries is a complex problem that requires the attention of both medical professionals and social services. It requires a multifaceted approach that includes treatment and rehabilitation, the development of effective prevention methods using modern technology, and social support. The main objective of this multifaceted work is to restore the quality of life of people affected by such injuries. Objective. To evaluate the hearing condition and efficiency of hearing aid in patients with hearing impairment due to mine blast injuries. Patients and methods. 15 patients took part in the study. Each patient underwent comprehensive otolaryngologic examination and comprehensive audiological examination. According to the results of the examinations, individual methods of comprehensive auditory rehabilitation were determined. Results. During the dynamic observation, statistically significant improvement of speech perception and intelligibility in different acoustic conditions was noted. A decrease in the level of discomfort was noted in patients when hearing aids were applied. Conclusions. The data obtained confirm that without the use of technical rehabilitation devices the daily activities of patients are significantly limited. Effective rehabilitation of patients requires a comprehensive approach, including medical supervision, individual rehabilitation programs, and constant support of specialists.
