ABSTRACT
Abstract. Introduction. The issues of efficiency and quality of hearing aid fitting are one of the most important areas of work of an audiologist-otolaryngologist. Objective. Тo conduct a comparative assessment of the efficiency of hearing aid fitting in patients with experience of wearing a hearing aid and first-time users of hearing aid. Methods. The study was conducted at the otolaryngology department of the Clinics of the Samara State Medical University in 250 patients aged 21 to 95 years with confirmed bilateral chronic sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL), using hearing aids mono- or binaurally. The average age was 62.8±15.3 years, including 134 women (average age 64.2±16.0 years) and 116 men (average age 61.3±14.3 years). Satisfaction with the hearing aid and the effectiveness of hearing aid fitting were assessed using the Glasgow Hearing Aid Benefit Profile (GHABP) in the group with experience of wearing a hearing aid and in the group of patients with HSCT who were fitted with a hearing aid for the first time. Results. The effectiveness of hearing aid fitting in adult patients with HSCT is associated with the experience of wearing hearing aids: low satisfaction with the hearing aids (less than 20 points according to the GHABP) was noted in 85.8% of first-time users of hearing aid and in 42.4% of experienced users. In the group of first-time users of hearing aid with SNHL, the degree of use of the hearing aid was significantly lower and amounted to only 50.3±5.8 points out of a maximum of 100 points. Discussion. The features of assessing the results of hearing aid fitting and satisfaction with the hearing aids immediately after hearing aid fitting are important for subsequent counseling and personalized selection of the optimal set of hearing.
