ABSTRACT
Abstract. Hamartoma occupies a special place among benign tumors of the nasal cavity and paranasal sinuses. Literature information about it is sparse and ambiguous both clinically and morphologically. According to various authors, this disease is equally common in men and women aged 7 to 70 years, but mainly in 50–60-year-old men. The clinical manifestations of this disease are highly variable. The main ones are impaired nasal breathing, nosebleeds, recurrent long-term infections of the paranasal sinuses, including in combination with polyposis, which is observed in 57% of patients. Histologically, there are 3 subtypes of hamartoma: 1) respiratory epithelial; 2) mixed epithelial-mesenchymal type; 3) mesenchymal type, which includes nasal chondromesenchymal hamartoma (NCMH). The article presents a clinical case of a benign tumor-like formation, which is not characterized by malignancy. Hamartoma treatment is surgical. The likelihood of infiltrative growth indicates the need to use more radical operational approaches. Nevertheless, there are isolated reports in the literature about the possible malignancy of this process. There are no specific manifestations of the disease, which makes it difficult to identify as it is clinically related to various types of rhinosinusitis and their complications.
