ABSTRACT
Abstract. This paper presents comparative results of using ultrasonic surgical instruments (piezotome) and a burr drill in the removal of bone masses in the area of the external auditory canal (canaloplasty), in the area of the facial nerve, dura mater of the middle cranial fossa and the sigmoid sinus. The comparison was made by analyzing the surgeons’ questionnaires on the following indicators: 1) convenience of performing the corresponding stage of the operation ву piezotome in comparison with a burr machine; 2) required time (in minutes) to perform the corresponding stage of the operation; 3) identified technical difficulties when using a piezotome in comparison with a burr machine. The obtained results allow us to recommend the use of ultrasonic instruments in the performance of certain stages of surgery on the bony structures of the external and middle ear as less traumatic in comparison with a burr drill.
